Japanese Complex Brocade with Rabbit Emblems
Antique Japanese silk brocade fragment made of rows of small rabbit emblems with rows of small precious objects between. The ground of raised zig-zag woven in dark blue with the emblems picked out in silver and white. Inspired by Jin period silks brought to Japan in the Heian period, circa 12th century that have been preserved as "Shifuko", tea purses used in the Japanese tea ceremony. Meiji period, 19th century
