HONG ZHU AN - NEW DIRECTION
September 23 - October 3, 2005
Plum Blossoms Gallery Hong Kong
The directors of Plum Blossoms Gallery take great pleasure in presenting the latest works of the renowned Chinese artist Hong Zhu An in his upcoming solo exhibition ¡V New Direction, which will be on view at the Hong Kong Plum Blossoms gallery from September 23 to October 1, 2005.
Hong Zhu An¡¦s previous work familiarised its audience with its recollection of Chinese-ness and the colour-field abstraction. Yet he has made a big step forward to push his artwork to a new direction. The exhibition will host a new series of Hong¡¦s works which is much more immediate, instinctive and reactive. His once controlled and dominated calligraphic lines now become looser and freed from the artist¡¦s hand. Each line seems to be fused with confidence that shows speed and an autobiographical linkage to the artist.
This new direction not only excites audience who are familiar with the previous styles of Hong¡¦s uses of collective universal memory of Chinese antiques and traditions, but also draws attractions from those who admire art of modern sensation with a touch of hidden tension and metaphor. Hong¡¦s works are not merely cliche of the contemporary East/West interaction. His works have a unique sense of internationality that is appreciated by people from every corner of the world.
Hong Zhu An was born in Shanghai in 1955. In 1997, Hong received his Master of Arts degree from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology of Australia in Singapore, where Hong has resided as a full time artist since 1993. Hong is a prominent figure of the contemporary Chinese art scene and he has vast and universal private collectors and his public collectors include various international banks, hotels, institutions and museums around the world.
